Jim’s Place
East Open First Time for Father’s Day Lunch:
Offers
Greek and American Favorites, Children’s Museum Drawing
MEMPHIS, TENN. (May 29, 2009)… Jim’s Place East
will open its doors on Father’s Day for the very first time. A special luncheon on Sunday, June 21 is in
store for dads and families as well as the opportunity to win four passes to
the Children’s Museum to extend the family experience. Check www.jimsplaceeast.com
or call 388.7200, ext. 4. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. with plentiful choices for
man-sized appetites.
“We are normally closed on Sundays, but in the past
few years we have slowly introduced special openings for Easter and Mother’s
Day luncheons,” said Jim’s Place co-owner Angelo Liollio. “Both have been increasingly popular. We had a
wonderful Mother’s Day this year and expect a Father’s Day tradition to become
equally as well attended. On our first
Father’s Day, we are pleased to join with the Children’s Museum to embrace a family
centered theme.”
Dads often forge the way for their children and the
Jim’s Place owners know that firsthand.
All are first generation Greeks whose fathers came to America for a more
prosperous life. Bill Taras, father of Jim’s co-owners Costa and Dimitri Taras, was one of the
original owners of the restaurant that had its beginnings downtown in
1921. The restaurant has been at the
5560 Shelby Oaks Dr. location since the mid-70s. Today’s Jim’s Place menu reflects a
respectful nod back to its Greek roots along with American and Southern
favorites.
The
Jim’s Place Father’s Day lunch menu offers authentic Greek
entrees such as roast leg of lamb with Grecian seasonings and souflima, a savory pork dish made from a Taras family Greek recipe (Mainland Greece), as well as
dishes to please the American or Southern palate. Guests can choose from Mississippi pecan
crusted catfish, Norwegian salmon prepared with lemon oregano sauce, Low
Country crawfish and shrimp, tilapia grilled or broiled in lemon-garlic butter
sauce, grilled rib eye steak, chicken Parmesan, batter dipped veal cutlet, and
‘extra select’ Gulf oysters. Each entrée comes with a choice of two vegetable
or fruit sides with a selection ranging from cold asparagus mousse, fresh cut
fruit and garden fresh turnip greens to creamed Idaho potatoes, sautéed yellow
squash, Italian seasoned spinach, crisp garden salad with freshly made dressings
and soup of the day. Each meal is accompanied by Jim’s homemade bread. There’s
also a Kid’s Menu available.
